The Hard Work of Wedding Makeup Artistry
Wedding makeup artistry is primarily fun but also very hard work. Have you heard the phrase, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life?” That is how I’ve felt about my career as a makeup artist; I thoroughly enjoy it.
When working weddings, you start by getting up before sunrise and loading up the car with everything you will need for the day. Travel is sometimes 10 miles and sometimes 100 miles one way, so you spend much time in the car getting to and from.
In addition, we stand in one place for hours and do not always consider our posture because we give 100% attention to the client. This can result in many different head-to-toe body aches.
Do you know why I’m mentioning this? For me, overtime standing for hours and then sitting for hours did a number on my knees.
I needed to step back and work on myself since I could not stand for long periods and needed to replace both my knees.
From 2022 – 2024, I worked a limited number of weddings. I and the trusty stool I sat on made it happen.
I worked hard on myself, and I lost a lot of weight. In July 2023, I had knee 1 replaced, and in December 2023, I had knee 2 replaced. Then, in 2024, I needed to take some time to focus on myself and my recovery. Rebuilding strength and stamina took quite a bit of time. I’m happy to say I’m fully recovered and ready to move forward! I’m super excited to be back to working weddings again!
I didn’t do my annual “Selfies with Brides” blogs since 2021, Enjoy!
